The garden girl.
She was born in a poor family of khans.The khans did not have a good reputation in the village.They lived on the out skirts of village Koel near to doon-a DENUDED fo forest hill ntop.It is said the khan made fotune in selliihng wood.Their elder settler the yamin kan was a migrant from some where and had invested his labour and energy in denuding the area .He had constructed an excellent manson on the fringe of forest near to Gojars.Most of the villagers tanted them too as same tribe ,who over years had learned kashmiri.The garden girls father was one of the five sons of the yamen khan.He was a midddle school drop out and had no job.He used to make money out of a good chunk of rice land left by his father.The man called jallal khan was lazy and wandered along with bad guys..He was the participiant of any wrong movlement in the village and nature his politacal colyours ever now and then.Of late I am told he was a changed spritual guy in compay of one respected saint type guy.The birth of the garden girl was thus a poor girl born in a manson and with a ill reputed parents.She too never passed Middle class and was engaged when young to a distant relative.
WHEN she GREW
She grew in poverty,with spells of fortunes and scracity dependig on climatic graph .During good rains their fields yielded good harvest.That year they had food year round.When the rians were scanty or rice inflicted a disease the produce lasted for few months and mostly from June the family had to strave .The seasonal vegetables,green sangada or a forest vegetable was their only source of feeding during this period.Their mother and other children a number of them used to go to the near by forests and bring wood for burning fire or going to the the wular to fetch the nelembium roots and shoots or the sangarda was the optional food source for the family.The garden girl having failed and dropped in the school used to help the family in cooking or caring for a little vegetable garden close to an apple garden of a KOOJA THE JOO,who have been described as koel joos in these pages.
HOW SHE LOOKED
She was white like snow.Her face glowed.She was ever smiling.She was small structure mah be 5ft 2inches or more but not a tall girl.This was her short coming.A friend and neaighbour of theirs who later became a patwari use to tell she will die while giving birth to al child.He will tell her short size is bound to result in dystokia.His predictions proved worng as I knew she bore many children of her size healthy and heraty.She is still alive.SHE may be any w ay nearing 60 years now.
WHOM SHE LOVED
Yes she loved the son of Khojas whoes garden was near their home.The Khojas were a reputed and well to do family.She lurred the boy.The boy at first was uninterested,but then one day when GARDEN GIRL send him a token of berries with little ill written love letter.The little innoscent boy replied on the insistance of his friend the maqbool ,famous for the love episodes.Yes then the love grew slowly but then the letters were some how exposed by a villon.The villon was another khan boy of the dynasty of the Khans who later died a miserable death for his ugly acts.The khojas on hearing the episode sent their son to a far away place for education and then to Euorpe .On his return he wanted to see her and she was no more to be seen.She was married and had few children.The boy was trapped by the family fued.The Khojas knowingly never wanted him to marry a khan girl.The boys brother although himself a victim of child marraige was also helpless and told to boy.Well she was already engaged so none could help.They never met agian except once when both were grey and nearing grave.Her glow in the eyes and sigh in the breath indicated she loved for ever,but the poor He a magesty then could not even utter a word .He was stunned and bluffed.He wished to help her but could not as her so called magistic look and fame was at stake for a false pride she lost her agian and again .She died in agony or is alive is not known and may be continued in future.
