Classic Stoneware of Japan: Shino and Oribe
Sale Price: $180.00 |
DescriptionThough Japan today has become one of the world's most industrialized, mechanized, and computerized nations, it still boasts one of the world's richest and most fascinating ceramic traditions. Two of the country's most remarkable styles of pottery are Shino and Oribe, both originating in ancient Mino Province (modern-day Gifu Prefecture) from the time of Japan's artistic "renaissance" in the late sixteenth century... |
Chinese porcelain is a very ancient material that was used for the first time eleven thousand years ago, and we still use it today for different usage such as for creating porcelain dishes including plates, bowls, cups etc., for bricks and tiles, for sinks and so on. Chinese porcelain and its history has always fascinated us so much that people opened different museums in different places of the world to tell other people about this porcelain and its origin, and value.
Famous museums not just in Europe but in the United States have included in their exhibitions many examples of this porcelain. For instance, the world wide known museum of Metropolitan Museum of Art located in New York City, has purchased a Jian tea bowl and many other antique products to show visitors that China was the first place to produce porcelain and use it for every day needs. The same art, Jian, was also cherished in Japan and there it got developed as a single ware known as tenmoku. London is another metropolitan city which included Chinese arts in its museum too. Victoria and Albert Museum is another internationally famous museum which always shows its visitors stoneware dating back from the 12th century with the green glaze and a copper covered edge.
But the journey doesn't stop here. The west coasted city of San Francisco has a very interesting museum displaying Asian arts and this museum also included Chinese pottery from the Northern Song Dynasty which existed from 960 to 1127 AD. On the other hand, in Shanghai Museum in Shanghai there is a statue from the Ming Dynasty. As you can see from all of these examples, Chinese pottery has always had such a huge impact on people's culture and arts all over the world. And even nowadays these museums get tons of visitors each day just because they have an indicator of Chinese culture.
