Instead of a potentially insulting over the hill birthday party themes why not emphasize the fact that those who have reached a certain age have also arrived? Pull out all the stops and plan a menu that will really be a reason to celebrate? Why not over the hill surf and turf?
That's right. Serve each guest a small lobster tail and petite rib eye steak served with baked potato, dinner roll, and salad or Cole slaw. The salad dressing selections should be excellent ones. Nothing too complicated but infinitely worthy of the occasion. Lobster tails are sometimes reasonably inexpensive. They are a good choice when this is the case. To prepare them drop into a boiling kettle of water. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Drain excess water and cool. Using kitchen scissors remove under shell to expose lobster meat. Place in broiler pan and brush with melted butter. Broil two to three minutes being very watchful. Caution is needed since the butter can catch fire if left too long. Serve with melted butter and lemon wedge.
Unless feeling like going to a lot of bother preparing individual steak orders it is probably best to fry them all well done. Cooking times vary but steak will be firm to the touch when well done. Another test for doneness is to press down on each with a spatula. When juices run clear steak is well done.
Of course the meal itself will need to be served on solid stoneware or china but desert calls for themed paper party supplies. The tablecloth, paper plates and cups can all reflect the over the hill theme. But once again make the cake and ice cream both very impressive ones. After all the meal was excellent don't skimp on dessert. Have a Tasty Time!
