Editing Your Own Pictures On The Pc
Make sure you have some good image work flow before you start with editing. It means that you need to save the originals in another separate place in order to prevent destroying or damaging the original image. Also, get familiar with the program's UNDO characteristic - usually Ctrl-Z is a shortcut for this, and will undo the latest image change. Equally important is not to forget the Save As button, that helps you save one copy for the image under another name so that you won't damage the original. Use Crop. The crop tool lets you remove parts from the image. Usually, a rectangle is used around the area that you need to keep and then, the rest gets removed. Whatever is inside the rectangle now becomes the new image. Also rotate and straighten tool is important. Rotate will allow you to obviously rotate your image, while Straighten does some similar task of allowing you to identify horizon lines or reference points. My recommendation is to first rotate, then to crop, after having the proper orientation. Other tools: Contrast and Brightness. These tools let you decrease or increase the relationship between darks and brights (the contrast), and also decrease or increase the overall brightness that the image has. The combinations of contrast and brightness settings can lead to dramatic impacts on the image, adding some extra "punch" or by softening visual impact. The tool can also impact sunset pictures and other type of scenic shots. Its a good tool which you can try on your image if it appears dull or flat. Next we have saturation: It is used in order to increase the color in an image. If you use it excessively, the result becomes artificial, also skin tones start to look unnatural. However, this tool can sweeten the impact of the color for outdoor and floral images. Theresize tool: its usually used in order to change the number and size of pixels, in that image file. If you want to send a picture to a website, you may think ofreducing the size or altering it, so it doesnt take long for the picture to load. But, when you need the image printed at a large size, the size will have to be larger. A lot of software will try and fill the spaces that are missing when attempting toresize the image above its original dimensions. This process is known as interpolation, and the software will give you mixed results when trying to increase the size to an extremely largedimension . Sharpen: the sharpen tool helps you increase the contrast of an image, and makes the small features to stand out more. Selective sharpen only deals with parts of images, like eyes, in order to draw the attention at them, but you can apply sharpening to the whole image also So, take some images that you dislike, and use each tool to change the picture and see how you can develop great photographic skills!
