What Ronald Reagan Did For America
- Reaganomics (the economic style of government Ronald Reagan input while in office) created an unexpected period of economic prosperity, were it not for the congress which was mostly controlled by democrats, and its insistence to continue the wasteful style of government that even the Reaganomics economic boom could not support, the financial crisis America faces now would have probably been avoided.
- Ronald Reagan knew that the US economy would collapse because of its debt and tax burden, he knew that this style of growth and government was not sustainable, the amazing thing is that he knew this in 1964, while giving his famous speech ‘A Time for Choosing', on October 27th 1964 he said:
"No nation in history has ever survived a tax burden that reached a third of its national income".
- The United States of America has one of the best if not the best armed forces in the world, this was not the case when Ronald Reagan took office, the previous regime had ruined and humiliated the United States Armed Forces. Reagan rebuilt the Armed Forces and set them on the path that led them to where they are today.
- The policies Reagan had put in place and what he advocated for weakened Americas greatest foe at that time, The Soviet Union, and they also paved the way to its demise. It was admirable how Reagan handled himself and the United States during the cold war.
- Ronald Reagan hated the idea of communism and was prepared to fight it, in any way that he could, he was one of the greatest fighters of communism in Latin America and helped stop its spread because he knew that the people in Latin America would immigrate to the US and bring Communism into the last bastion of freedom as he called it.
- But his greatest achievement was how he helped the American people literally. When Ronald Reagan took office he found a country that was in an economic mess, the country was going through what was known as stagflation, he singlehandedly changed this. During his regime Ronald Reagan lifted more people out of poverty in the US more than any other president since the great depression.
- The carter regime had humiliated the American people, but Ronald Reagan raised the self esteem of the nation, he made Americans proud to be Americans once again. He made the American people believe in themselves once again and in what they are capable of accomplishing.
- But in less practical terms, Ronald Reagan's personality was one of the main aspects of why he was able to accomplish what he did. He perceived himself as a great man, and lived up to his expectation, also known as The Great Communicator, Ronald Reagan had a skill that almost all can remember. He is known for giving some of the greatest speeches from an American president, the speeches were optimistic showing people there is truly a better tomorrow, his speeches were comforting in trying times such as when the US challenger shuttle tragedy, and lastly his speeches were patriotic.
- And now more than ever we need Reagan's timeless wisdom, and even though he may not be with us anymore his wise words are still here and will be referred to for many years to come, Reagan's timeless wisdom will get us through these trying times.
