Antiques are meant to be admired and not just owned. This applies equally for antique glass objects as well. Just because they are delicate and liable to break, don't pack them and store them away. All you need to do is take good care of them and they will remain with you for years.

The most obvious concern with antique glass objects is the fear of damaging them. While lifting such pieces, use both your hands. Lift up an antique glass object with its heaviest part. Do not lift it using delicate parts like handles or even spouts.

Display antique glass objects a little away from seating areas. Never keep them on display cases that are situated just above a seating area. This will prevent your guests from bumping into the glass pieces and damaging them. While washing your antique glass pieces be patient. Wash each piece individually so that they don't knock against each other and get damaged.

If you have any antique glass objects that are broken, you may like to glue them together. However, glue gets discolored over time and leaves behind ugly yellow stains. Experts recommend mending broken glass with Hxtal, which makes pieces stick together very well and does not get discolored very quickly. First, apply the glue to the edges of the broken pieces, press them together carefully and then tape them together. This will help to keep the pieces together while the glue takes time to bond. After 3 days, remove the tape.

You may sometimes find that your antique glass objects are looking stained or discolored. This could be due to incorrect usage, display or cleaning. Sometimes, severe environmental conditions can also cause glass to get damaged. When you store glass objects, line them with a soft cloth or polyester padding so that each piece does not rub against the other. This will also prevent scratches and stop any paint on the outside from peeling off. Do not use spring metal hangers to display antique plates. It can cause cracks and scratches to appear on the glass. Instead use wooden or plastic stands to display your glassware.

You can clean your antique pieces with a mild detergent and warm water. You could also use a solution of white vinegar and water for cleaning. Never put them into the dishwasher. Use a soft cloth or bottle brush for cleaning difficult areas. Do not try wiping the glassware. Leave it out to dry naturally. If your antique glass object is particularly valuable you may consider going in for professional help to clean it.
