There are a lot of race car decals out there but there are only a few themes running through them. Flames, spider webs and jarring shapes are some of the most common. Modified cars have lot of room on them to put decals. There is the side and the front and the best graphics will work with both areas.
There is a tremendous variety of flame types and if you want the real cool classic flames you are going to have to search for them. A lot of flames start out at the hood and then move back. Some flames start out as an eagle and then morph into flame tails. Swirls are another type of theme that pops up regularly. Swirls usually start at the side of the car and go toward the back, often with a counter swirl going across it. Some swirl packages are called adrenaline.
Another theme that pops up is the checkered flag. After all this is a race. The checkered flag theme has evolved over the years so that now they are contorted to all kinds of shapes and though they may be checkered they rarely look like a flag anymore. Often the checkered flag will be combined with something else to produce an overall effect. Lightening bolts across the hood of may race cars. It is usually printed on vinyl and the race car decal is then applied to the car.
Paint splatter is another theme that has popped up in recent years. The advantages of paint spatter is that there is a splatter for any budget. Paint splatter looks like what it sounds with round shapes often about eight to ten inches in diameter applied at various locations around the car. Paint spatter usually comes in different colors. Diamond plate is theme that tries to imitate formed steel on top of the cars sheet metal. It is another theme that is usually mixed with other ideas. The American Flag is a very popular theme and is another one that is often combined with other themes such as an eagle or even the checkered flag.
On the other extreme Japanese writing can be seen on a few cars, probably Japanese cars. Although there are different words and phrases, a translation is seldom applied next to the decal so the viewer is left trying to figure out what it says.
One category that hardly needs mentioning is the sponsor decals. Fortunately and unfortunately there are a million of them and that is just on one car. It is great that ordinary people will get behind a car and help out with the bone-crushing expenses but the unfortunate part comes in when you see a virtual shotgun blast of decals that end up covering up some of the more artistic aspects of the race car graphics.
