Styrofoam glue is a specially designed adhesive that is produced and used for the specific purpose of gluing Styrofoam. Gluing Styrofoam can be necessary for at home craft projects, models, or other special uses or needs in which a very specialized glue is necessary to complete the job effectively.
There are many different brands of Styrofoam glues and adhesives, which is good because not every project is going to be the same and ever individual is going to have different needs. Not every tool is appropriate for every job, and projects involving Styrofoam are no exception. For some a carefully applied small tube will work, while others who don't need that level of precision will find a spray effective for a wide surface area.
One important thing to keep in mind when using any type of Styrofoam glue, however, is that this is one type of craft glue that should never be applied directly via hot glue gun. Styrofoam is not designed to deal with extremely high temperatures, and if hot glue is applied directly, in all likelihood the white foam plastic will burn, melt, and give off some toxic fumes. This is why virtually all hobby and project gluing that involves Styrofoam adhesive has to be done by hand. The hot stuff just isn't a good idea at all when using this material.
Because gluing Styrofoam isn't an overly common task, most tubes of Styrofoam glue are very small, with more than enough craft adhesive for a few good jobs, with a touch extra to take into account for mistakes. One way to make sure that you have enough for the job is to take all the necessary preparation ahead of time.
Look at your project, plan out how much glue you will need, how long the project will take, and make sure to do a mental walk through to make sure there's nothing you're missing. Different types of Styrofoam glue have different drying times, different specialty uses, and different application processes. Clearly knowing what you need, why you need it, and how to use it will do wonders to help you complete a quality project with the least pain possible.
There are many different choices in Styrofoam glue, and these options mean that for whatever project you have, there is a perfect adhesive for that job.
