I love to visit the USA, there is so much to see and the choice is so diverse. So I thought I would write about a really enjoyable, inexpensive family pass time, picnicking. If you are booking a vacation in the States and just want to do some simple stuff and spend time with your family, outdoors, enjoying the weather and the scenery, then the USA has some of the most beautiful places in the world to do this.
Below I have mentioned some wonderful locations for a picnic. These are just some of my ideas and I hope they help but it might be an idea when planning your vacation to consult an expert before making a decision, after all I'm sure you'll want to do more than just picnic! Here's where a good travel agent, that knows the area, will be useful or better still why not try an online travel club, these are becoming so popular due to the variety of locations, accommodations and travel arrangements they can offer. I can personally recommend Primo Vacations which is a low cost life time membership but they offer a huge range of heavily discounted stock, often up to 80% off.
Anyway, here are 5 top destinations in the USA which are fantastic locations to enjoy the great outdoors and also offer so much more too!
- Cumberland Islands in Georgia is one of the most beautiful places for outdoor activities. It is just a few hour drives from the southern part of Savannah. It is a national seashore that has been tagged as a picnicking haven. You can also pack some things so you can enjoy hiking, camping, and swimming. Visiting Cumberland Islands is a great choice for people who want to experience the peace and quiet here as the National Park Service restricts 300 people only on the island at any one time. Just the place for a romantic picnic!
- Grand Park, Chicago is also another great destination where there are lots of gourmet treats for food lovers. Here you will find food festivals every year. You will also find live music, the art institute, stunning statues, rose gardens and the addition of Millennium Park, in which you'll find an outdoor music pavilion, an ice rink and a theater - built below ground - as well as a modern fountain and a iconic monument, the Cloud Gate. A winding, 282m long footbridge designed by Gehry connects Daley Bicentennial Plaza in Grant Park with the new park. Another bridge, the Nichols Bridgeway, connects Millennium Park with the Art Institute. Many events have taken place here in Grant Park, not least on November 4, 2008, when Barack Obama accepted the post of president of the United States before a crowd of 125,000 people. 25
- Cranberry Islands, Maine is also another great designation for picnicking. On the Cranberry Islands you'll get a cool and calming break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Hike or bike the islands in safety, and discover the interesting museums and quality gift shops - and the best views of the mountains of Acadia National Park. But the Cranberry Islands are true islands. To get here you must have your own boat, or hire one, leaving your car and the hustle and bustle on Mt. Desert.
- Red Rock Canyon Nevada, located just a short drive west of the Las Vegas Strip, with its glittering hotels, world-class restaurants, and unmatched entertainment choices, Red Rock Canyon is an oasis in a neon desert. Here you can go horseback riding in the morning and have a Red Rock wedding in the afternoon or you can pet the wild burros that line the road just at feeding time. Alternatively you can go rock climbing and hiking where you will see wild horses, bighorn sheep and well as the wild burros roaming free. What a place for a picnic!
- Big Sur, California, This region is about 89 highway miles (143 km) in length along California's coastal Highway 1 and lies between the San Francisco Bay area and the Los Angeles area. Hiking trails in the Big Sur region range from relatively flat nature trails through the trees or along the rocky coastline, suitable for children or those with disabilities, to challenging routes for long day hikes or overnight trips. Wilderness permits are required for overnight backpacking stays in many locations. This stunning location has provided inspiration to photographers, painters, writers and musicians. Again, so much I could mention here. A wonderfully tranquil place and, of course, ideal for picnic.
